The mental health problems of parents and carers do not necessarily have an adverse impact on children’s development, but it is essential always to assess the impact they do have on individual children and young people in the context of each family situation.

Where a parent has enduring and/or severe mental ill-health problems, children and young people in the household are more likely to be at risk of significant harm.

The links and guidance provided on this website should help inform the analysis required as to the actions that should be taken to support families and safeguard children and young people.

As with all aspects of safeguarding children and young people, concerns can never be shared too early and making contact with your line manager or agencies’ lead officers, the CAF Coordinator, or directly with Bracknell Forest Children’s Social Care department will help you establish an appropriate response.
